Uihlein Falters, Potter Fourth in Boise
Saturday, September 16, 2017

As has been the trend so often on the Web.com Tour this season, an impressive first-round leader couldn't take the heat in round two and took a major plunge down the leaderboard in the Albertsons Boise Open. Peter Uihlein, after ripping the Hillcrest Country Club course for a 9-under-par 62 on Thursday, came back with a 3-over-par 74 yesterday and let everybody back in the fray.

Ted Potter, after his opening 64 left him in a tie for third at 7 under, tacked on a 3-under-par 68 yesterday and is all alone in fourth place at 10 under. Tyler Duncan (66-64-130) took over the top spot at 12 under, one stroke better than Alex Cejka and Taylor Moore.

Ted began on the first hole and birdied 2, 3 and 6 to get it to 10 under before taking a bogey on No. 9. After a par on 10, the TV cameras came on and followed him the rest of the way. Ted responded with a long birdie putt on No. 11, then parred holes 12-16 to remain at 10 under. On the par-3 17th, he hit his tee shot into a greenside bunker, blasted out to about 15 feet, then barely missed the putt. But he regained that stroke when his second shot on 18 wound up 10 feet from the hole and he made it for his fifth birdie of the day.

The cut came at 2 under par and making it were Central Floridians Rob Oppenheim (9 under and tied for fifth) and Nick Lindheim (4 under). Gator Brett Stegmaier (71-69-140) made it right on the cut line. Nine players who have already secured their PGA Tour privileges for 2017-2018 by finishing in "the 25" during the regular season, missed the cut.

Ted tees off today in the next-to-last pairing with Moore at 2 p. m. Boise time, which is 4 p. m. EST. Duncan and Cejka follow at 2:10. Golf Channel's coverage begins at 5 p. m., so we should get to see Ted for about 13 or 14 holes.
