Two Late Bogeys Knock Potter Out in Las Vegas
Saturday, October 5, 2019

Ted Potter came to his 16th hole (no. 7) at the Shriner's Children's Hospitals Open yesterday in great shape. After his opening-round 1-under-par 70, Ted was sailing along with five birdies and nary a bogey in round 2, putting him at 6 under with three holes to play, one better than the projected cut line of minus 5.

But he took bogeys at the seventh and eighth holes to drop back to 4 under, and needed a birdie at the par-5 ninth to make the cut line. Ted hit his third shot 11 feet, 3 inches from the hole, but he missed the birdie putt and was free to leave Las Vegas and head for his next venue, the Houston Open. He wound up with 70-68-138.

Nick Taylor, who led after the first round , tailed off on Friday and there are four new names tied at the top at 12 under; Brian Stuard, Patrick Cantlay, Lucas Glover and Kevin Na. Matt Jones is alone in fifth at 11 under.

Seminole Daniel Berger made the cut with 66-67, 9 under, as did Gator Brian Gay (65-69) and Phil Mickelson (65-69), both at 8 under. Gator Matt Every made the cut at 6 under (70-66), but Seminole Brooks Koepka didn't.
