Three Tied for Pebble Beach Lead as Power Falters
Sunday, February 6, 2022

Seamus Power yesterday joined that growing group of halfway leaders who have imploded in the third round of PGA Tour events, doing likewise at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Power blew his 36-hole, five-stroke lead by posting a 3-over-par 74 and dropped into seventh place, although he's still not out of the running.

After play at three courses since Thursday, the finale will be decided today at Pebble Beach, and Power will have a shot at Beau Hossler, Andrew Putnam and Tom Hoge, who are tied for the lead at 15 under par. Patrick Cantlay, Joel Dahmen and Jordan Spieth are one stroke back, Spieth joining the other two by virtue of his Saturday 63. Power is by himself in seventh at 13 under, but a 68 or 69 yesterday after his pair of 64's would have put him in an almost unbeatable position.

With the cut coming at 5 under, Ted Potter missed what could be his last chance for a PGA start in quite a while. Ted made it as a past Pebble Beach champ (2018), but his opening-round 76 knocked him out early, even with his pair of 71's that left him at 3 over par, missing the cut by eight strokes. He'll try to regain his exemption by playing the Korn Ferry Tour for the rest of the season; he missed the cut in the first two events of that tour.

Gator Camilo Villegas is still alive at Pebble Beach after rounds of 67-72-70-209, 6 under, but Brian Gay bowed out with 76-68-77-221, 6 over.

In the pro-am division, there are 25 teams alive, all between 24 and 19 under.
