Three-Putt on 18 Costly for Potter
Monday, June 5, 2017

Ted Potter saved the best for last at the Rex Hospital Open, shooting a Sunday 66 that lifted him from the 53rd spot into an eight-way tie for 17th. But it could have been better.

Ted blasted out of the gate early, making five birdies on the front nine and turning in 31. At the time, he was 8 under par and tied for 11th. On the back nine, he got it to 9 under with a birdie at 15 and moved up to a tie for seventh, but disaster struck on No. 18. He hit the par 5 in three, then three-putted for a bogey, dropping him back to 8 under again and costing him several thousand dollars. As it was, he earned a check for $8,506, boosting his total for the season to $113,082, and he fell back one spot on the money list to 14th.

Conrad Shindler won the event on the first playoff hole against Chesson Hadley when Hadley took a bogey. The two had tied for the lead at 15 under par. Shindler is the reason Ted dropped a spot on the list, since the winner's check vaulted Shindler from 50th to fifth with $152,528 in the bank. Gator Dudley Hart finished at 6 under par and tied for 33rd; he moved from 180th on the money list to 158th.

The Web.com Tour travels to Ivanhoe, Illinois for the $600,000 Rust-Oleum Championship this week and Ted will attempt to better his position on the money list. Also entered is Dan McCarthy, recent two-time winner of the Ocala Open at Candler Hills, and Jack Maguire (just found out he's a Seminole).

HE'S NO DUFFER - Jason Dufner left the field behind on the back nine of The Memorial after his Saturday 77 appeared to have knocked him out of the running. Jason shot 65-67-77-68-275, 13 under par, for a three-stroke victory over Rickie Fowler and Anirban Lahiri.

After dropping back to nine under via the third-round 77, Jason began Sunday with an even-par front nine. But he birdied four holes on the back while the rest of the field fell asleep, and he waltzed home with a check for $1,566,000.

Daniel Summerhays, who went into the finale at 13 under, soared to a 6-over 78 and dropped back to a tie for 10th. Brooks Koepka finished at 1-under 287 after a final-round 74 and tied for 31st, while Camilo Villegas tied for 63rd at plus 6.

The PGA Tour heads for Tennessee for the Fed-Ex St. Jude this week, where Seminole Daniel Berger will defend the title he won last year. Koepka will also contend, along with all the Gators - Brian Gay, Billy Horschel, Camilo Villegas, Brett Stegmaier and Matt Every.
