Star Power Missing Again in Vegas
Tuesday, October 30, 2018

The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is next up on the PGA Tour schedule, and once again it lacks much of the tour's star power, as is the case with so many of the early events on the wrap-around schedule.

The $7 million event to be played at the TP Summerlin in Las Vegas will have Bryson DeChambeau, Jason Dufner, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson and Jordan Spieth, plus oldies but goodies Davis Love III, Kenny Perry, Vijay Singh and Ernie Els. But is that enough to draw the kind of crowds they draw at the events where all or most of the top 20 are represented?

The strength of the field, or the lack of it, can be measured by checking the name of the No.1 alternate - Dylan (who?) Frittelli.

Ted Potter will also be missing for the second straight week, and the only Gator or Seminole entered is Brian Gay.

The Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi was won by Cameron Champ at 21 under, four better than Corey Connors. Gator Matt Every finished at 10 under, tied for 20th.

The $10 million WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai was captured by Xander Schauffele in a one-hole playoff over Finau after both finished at 14 under. Schauffele birdied the par-5 18th while Finau made par. Only 20 players finished under par and Xiao Bowen wound up last after rounds of 76-79-80-82-317, 29 over par. How did he get in?

Gator Billy Horschel tied for 11th at 4 under and Seminole Brooks Koepka tied for 16th at 2 under.
