Snedeker Charges Late, Still in Front in Greensboro
Saturday, August 18, 2018

After his sensational 11-under 59 at the Wyndham Championship on Thursday, Brandt Snedeker was doing little to advance his cause during his first 14 holes on Friday. Brandt made three birdies and three bogeys through 14 and had let the field come to him. But he pulled away again with an eagle 3 on the par-5 15th, and a birdie on the par-3 16th, and headed into the clubhouse at 14 under with a two-stroke lead over D. A. Points, and three over C. T. Pan.

The event in Greensboro is of extreme importance to Points, who hasn't done much lately and had slipped badly on all the PGA Tour lists, even going so far as to make it difficult for him to enter tournaments. A big finish over the weekend can end all that, especially if he can overtake Snedeker and win his first tournament in ages, which would give him a two-year exemption.

Marquee players: Sergio Garcia, 9 under, tied for 4th; Henrik Stenson, 7 under, tied for 15th; Hideki Matsuyama, 6 under, tied for 27th.

Gators: Brett Stegmaier, 9 under; Brian Gay, 7 under; Billy Horschel, 6 under.

Seminole: Daniel Berger, 1 over, missed cut (-3).
