Simpson's Closing Charge Beats Finau in Overtime in Phoenix
Monday, February 3, 2020

Webb Simpson birdied the final two holes at the Waste Management Phoenix Open to pull into a tie with Tony Finau, then stole the title from Finau with a birdie 3 on the playoff hole - No. 18. The duo had tied for first at 17 under par over the TPC Scottsdale course.

When Finau birdied the 12th and 13th holes he took a one-stroke lead with five to play. The lead was extended to two when Simpson bogeyed the 15th and the outcome seemed not to be in doubt. But it was. While Simpson birdied 17 and 18, Finau needed just one birdie over the last five holes to sew up the victory, but he parred all five. Simpson collected $1,314,000 for his heroics, while Finau had to settle for a mere $795,700.

Gator Billy Horschel closed with 69 to finish at 11 under, tied for ninth. Seminole Daniel Berger joined Horschel in the ninth-place tie after closing with 67. They each walked away with $170,767.
