Rowland Off to Slow Start at ClubCorp Classic
Saturday, April 23, 2022

Roger Rowland put together nines of 39-36-75, 4 over par, in round 1 of the $2 million ClubCorp Classic, and trails leader Jerry Kelly (66) by nine strokes heading into the weekend.

Roger was sailing along at just 1 over par after 12 holes on the Las Colinas Country Club course in Irving, Texas, in his quest to add a big check to his $11,400 bank account accumulated in four events on the Champions Tour. But a bogey on 12, followed by a double on five and another bogey on six sabotaged his round. He made one back with a birdie on the par-5 seventh.

Kelly holds a one-stroke lead over Woody Austin, Scott Parel and Gene Sauers, and there are four more tied at 3 under.

Gators: Brian Gay - 70, 1 under, tied for 16th; Mark Calcavecchia and Scott Dunlap - 72, 1 over, tied for 36th; Chris DiMarco - 77, 6 over, tied for 71st. Marco Dawson, former touring pro at Ocala's Adena Springs course - 71, even par, tied for 24th; Tom Lehman, architect of the Ocala Preserve course - 74, 3 over, tied for 52nd.
