Friday, January 11, 2019

After taking a bogey on the par-3 11th hole at the Waialae Country Club, the second hole he played yesterday, Ted Potter went on a birdie spree and wound up shooting a 4-under-par 66 in the first round of the Sony Open In Hawaii.

Ted went on to birdie the 13th and 18th holes on the back nine, and added birdies on 2, 3 and 9 on the front to complete his round of 32-34, putting him in a deadlock for seventh place.

Adam Svennson took the early lead in the $6.4 million event with a 9-under-par 61, one stroke better than Andrew Putnam and two better than Matt Kuchar. Ted is tied with nine others at 66, and there are 12 tied at 3 under. Defending champ Patton Kizzire is in the 3-under group, as is Gator Brian Gay.

The early projected cut is at 1 under 69.
