Tuesday, September 11, 2018

Ted Potter slipped to a 3-over-par 73 in the final round of the BMW Championship, at the same time slipping out of the FedEx Cup playoffs after the third leg of the series. Ted won't make it to the Tour Championship coming up next week in Atlanta after posting nines of 36-37 over the Aronimink Golf Club course in Newtown, PA.

Ted tied for 35th at 8 under par, and earned a final check of $46,350, bringing his total for the 2017-2018 season to $1,976,198. He began his round with a birdie on No. 1 to get it to 12 under at the time, and was 13th on the leaderboard. But bogeys on 7 and 8 knocked him out of contention and it went downhill from there.

Keegan Bradley won the event on the first playoff hole when Justin Rose bogeyed No. 18 after both had finished at 20 under par. It was Bradley's first victory in six years. Gator Billy Horschel and Xander Schauffele tied for third at 19 under, and Rory McIlroy was next at 18 under.

Tiger Woods tied for sixth with Webb Simpson at 17 under with rounds of 62-70-66-65-263.

Seminole Brooks Koepka tied for 19th at 12 under and goes on to Atlanta, as does Horschel. Gator Brian Gay tied for 45th and won't move forward.

OCALA LEADER - With his last two FedEx checks, Ted's total PGA Tour earnings jumped to $4,606,763, making him the all-time leader in that category from Ocala. He passed Grant Waite, who dropped to second with $4,583,879. Brenden Pappas is third and Mike Sullivan fourth, although Mike competed in the pre-Tiger era when the purses were a great deal lower.

Grant made it into four Champions Tour events this season and earned $30,414. The most recent was the Shaw Charity Classic ending Sept. 2 where he finished tied for 31st with rounds of 68-70-70-208, 2 under par. He finished first in average driving distance at 328.8, with a long drive of 346. Grant had previously finished in a tie for 49th in the American Family Insurance Championship and tied for 56th in the U. S. Senior Open.
