Sunday, January 6, 2019

Ted Potter will just be playing to improve his position, his paycheck and his FedEx points after getting back to even par yesterday in the $6.5 million Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui.

Ted forged a 2-under-par 71 over the Plantation Course at Kapalua after his opening 75 and 73 over the par-73 layout. He heads into the finale at 219, a good 17 strokes behind runaway leader Gary Woodland, who has posted 67-67-68-202, 17 under. He has a three-stroke lead over Rory McIlroy (69-68-68) and four over Marc Leishman, who is 13 under.

Ted began Saturday with a solid, 3-under front nine for 33, but was unable to keep it going. On the back, he made three bogeys and two birdies for 38. He tees off at 3:20 EST today with Brooks Koepka, whose 76-70-73-219 is tied with Ted for 29th. Gator Billy Horschel is one stroke better, with 72-75-71-218, 1 under par.
