Potter Shoots 68, Moves to 65th on FedEx List
Friday, September 7, 2018

Ted Potter opened the BMW Championship with a 2-under-par 68 and has moved up from No. 70 on the FedEx Cup points list to No. 65.

Ted began the day at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, PA by moving up one spot even before play began when Seminole Daniel Berger dropped out. It will take a Herculean effort over the next three days for Ted to break into the top 30, which he'll need if he's to make it to the Tour Championship in Atlanta next week.

Ted began with five straight pars before sinking a putt of 14 feet, 7 inches for a birdie on No. 6. He parred the next three holes for a front-nine 34. He went back to even when he bogeyed No. 11, but got that one back when he hit his tee shot on the 14th to within 2 1/2 feet, closest of the day on the par-3 hole.

On No. 18, Ted drove it 295 yards, then hit his 172-yard second to within 5 feet, 1 inch and drained it to go to minus 2. He wound up the day in 30th place, six strokes behind Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, both at 8-under 62.

Tiger thrilled the huge throng following him by making nine birdies and one bogey for his 62, but it could have been several strokes lower if some makeable putts had dropped.  He made four birdies and an eagle on the front for a sizzling 29. Tiger and Rory have a one-stroke lead over Xander Schauffele.
