Potter No. 1 Open Alternate in Columbus

     Ted Potter remained in Columbus Monday after the Memorial concluded to try to qualify for the U. S. Open coming up next week at Shinnecock Hills on Long Island. 

    There were a host of Tour players competing over 36 holes while shooting for 14 available spots, and Ted missed by one stroke, becoming the No. 1 alternate. He shot 69 at the Lakes Golf & Country Club, and 70 at the Brookside Golf & Country Club for a total of 139, 5 under par. Sungjae Im and Shane Lowry were the medalists at 9 under, one better than Gator Brian Gay, who made it with scores of 68-68-136, 8 under. 

    Tyson Alexander of Gainesville tried to qualify at the Bear's Club in Florida and posted scores of 78-67-145, 1 over par. It took a score of 3-under 141 to qualify for one of the three spots available.
