Ted Potter's second round at the Sony Open in Hawaii pretty much resembled round one. However, instead of beginning with a bogey and following with five birdies as he did on Thursday, this time he opened with a double bogey, then followed with seven birdies.  

    The result was that Ted added a 5-under-par 65 to his opening 66 over the Waialae Country Club course and at 9 under par is tied for fifth place, five strokes behind leader Matt Kuchar and four behind Andrew Putnam for second. With nobody at 12 under or 11 under, Ted is just one stroke out of third place. 

    If Ted can keep it up for two more rounds, a major paycheck in in store. First place in the $6.4 million event is worth more than $1.1 million, and fifth is worth approximately $255,000. Even 10th place brings home a check of more than $170,000. 

    After his double bogey on the par-4 first hole, Ted birdied 2, 3, 5, 8, and 9 on the front, and 12 and 14 on the back for a round of 32-33. He has hit just 17 of 28 fairways, but in a reverse of recent tournaments, has hit an excellent 30 of 36 greens in regulation. 

    Kuchar is on fire, posting a pair of 63s for 126, while Putnam shot 62-65-127. Gator Brian Gay (67-69-136) is 4 under par, and made the cut by two strokes. He's tied for 35th. 

    The tour has added another FSU player, Hank Lebioda, and he made the cut with rounds of 70-67-137, 3 under.  Hank, born and still living in Orlando, turns 25 on Monday and will celebrate his birthday with a good paycheck in the Sony. He's tied for 46th.

    In three previous events in the wrap-around season, Hank missed his first two cuts, then tied for 32nd at the RSM Classic, earning $36,224. On the Web.com Tour last year, he made 18 of 26 cuts, had one second and four top 10s, and earned $169,758.
