Potter Misses Phoenix Cut By 4 Strokes
Saturday, February 1, 2020

Ted Potter took a double bogey and a bogey on his first three holes at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Thursday, and he never recovered, missing his second cut in a row. Ted wound up his first nine at 2 over par, then played his last nine at 2 under, finishing at even-par 71. But he was unable to take advantage of the comeback on Friday, posting a 3-over 74, and at 3 over for 36 holes, missed the cut by four strokes.

    J. B. Holmes tacked a 6-under 65 onto his opening 64 and leads at the halfway point at 129, 13 under par. Wyndham Clark, who led after the first round with 61, added a 69 for 130, 12 under par and he's all alone in second. Gator Billy Horschel is tied for third at 11 under with Byeong Hun An after rounds of 63-68-131.

The other Gators, Brian Gay and Matt Every, missed the cut, Gay with 72-76-148 and Every with 76-69-145. Seminole Daniel Berger is still around, tied for 49th, after rounds of 69-71-140, 2 under par.

Ted will tee it up again Thursday in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the event he won three years ago for his second PGA Tour victory which afforded him an exemption for two more years; he's now playing on the second of those two years. The Pebble Beach purse is $7.8 million and Phil Mickelson will be back to defend the title he won last year, taking home $1,368,000.
