Potter Finishes Well at Torrey Pines for 1-Under 71
Friday, January 29, 2021

Ted Potter came out of the gate like a Model T Ford in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines yesterday, but by the time he reached No. 18, he was cruising along like a BMW.

Playing the South Course, which proved to be a great deal more difficult to the half of the field that played it, Ted shot a 1-under-par 71 and is in a tie for 69th heading into today's round over the apparently-easier North Course.

Ted began with a double bogey 6 on the first hole, and added a bogey on No. 2 to quickly go to 3 over. But, for the rest of the afternoon he made 12 pars and four birdies (on 7-11-15-17) for nines of 38-33 and an excellent chance to make his first cut of the season if he can keep it up today. He tees off at 1:20 EST on the North Course playing with Billy Horschel and Jason Dufner.

Patrick Reed is the leader with 8-under 64, and Alex Noren is one stroke behind. Scottie Scheffler is third at 6 under. All three played the North Course, as did 15 others among the top 20 on the leader board.

Gators: Horschel, 76; Matt Every 76; Camilo Villegas 80. Seminoles: Brooks Koepka 72; Hank Lebioda 73.
