Potter Falters, Ties for 37th at Greenbrier
Monday, July 10, 2017

A pair of late bogeys proved to be very costly to Ted Potter in the final round of the Greenbrier Classic yesterday. Ted began the day at 2 under par and methodically made a significant move up the leaderboard after birdies at 5, 7, 9 and 10. But bogeys at 13 and 15 dropped him back to 4 under and he wound up in an 8-way deadlock for 37th place.

Ted collected a check for $31,824, but the players who finished at 6 under and tied for 20th, where Ted stood with six holes to play, each received $69,501, a difference of $37,677. Included in the group at 6 under was Phil Mickelson, who began the day at even par and shot 6-under 64.

Ted made 15 birdies and 11 bogeys over the 72 holes and was done in by his inability to hit greens in regulation on the weekend, getting just 9 of 18 both days. That he was able to come in at even par for the two days is a testament to his strong chipping and putting ability.

Sebastian Munoz, who had a stranglehold on the lead at 14 under after three rounds, was unable to keep it going and shot 72, dropping him into a tie for third at 12 under. Xander Schauffele closed with 67 for 14 under and a one-stroke victory over Robert Streb, who shot 69 in the finale.

Gators Brett Stegmaier and Camilo Villegas tied for 50th at 2 under par, both shooting final-round 70s, while Brian Gay tied for 72nd, 4 over par.

This week. it's back to the Web.com Tour for Ted and the $700,000 Utah Championship at the Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah. By not competing in the Web.com event last week, Ted dropped two places on the money list to sixth. After the Utah tournament, there are six events left on the schedule before the four $1 million Finals, which end on Oct. 1. Two weeks later, Ted will begin his next stint on the PGA Tour.

Seminole Jack Maguire is also entered in the Utah event, at which he finished in a tie for 10th last year. Dan McCarthy, two-time winner of the Ocala Open, is also on board.
