Potter Disappoints at Rocket Mortgage Finale
Monday, July 6, 2020

For the first 54 holes of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Ted Potter made 17 birdies and six bogeys, was 11 under par, and had a great chance for a top 25 and a major payday. On Sunday, he didn't make a birdie, added six more bogeys, and wound up with a 6-over-par 78, dropping him to 66th on the leaderboard. The major payday didn't materialize, and Ted collected just $15,975, still better than a kick in the eye. With earnings of $361,540, he's sitting at 140th on the PGA Tour money list.

Ted began by making bogeys on the first three holes of the Detroit Golf Club, then added three more on holes 6 through 8, turning in 6-over 42. He ended up making par on each of his final 10 holes.

Bryson DeChambeau began the day in second place, but quickly vaulted into the lead and held it the rest of the way, finishing with a 65 to put him at 23 under par. Matthew Wolff finished second at 20 under after a Sunday 71, and Kevin Kisner was third at 18 under.

NEW EVENT - This week's tournament is the Workday Charity Open, which will be a one-time event at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio. It replaces the canceled John Deere Classic, which will return in 2021. The purse is $6.2 million. Then the field will stick around the next week for The Memorial.

Ted Potter will be playing, as will three of the top five players in the world - Jon Rahm (#2), Justin Thomas (#4) and Brooks Koepka (#5). Brooks makes his return after withdrawing from the Traveler's because caddy Ricky Elliott tested positive for the virus.

Also in the field are Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele. DeChambeau will sit this one out after winning in Detroit. There will be no spectators allowed.

    Par at Muirfield is 72 - it's 7,392 yards.
