Potter Bows Out in Houston With Three Doubles
Saturday, October 12, 2019

It was the perfect day to make an upward move - with so many players having problems at the Golf Club of Houston leading to a rare dropping of the projected cutline from minus 1 to even par. But Ted Potter was unable to take advantage of the opportunity after his opening-round 73, 1 over par.

Ted turned in one of the most bizarre rounds of his long career at the Houston Open, and finished with a 4-over-par 76, again missing the cut with a two-day total of 5 over.

Ted made what is probably the least number of pars - three - in any round since he joined the tour in 2011. On the other 15 holes he made three devastating doubles, all on par 4s, along with seven birdies and five bogeys. If he had made just two pars and a bogey on the three holes he doubled, he would have made the cut.

The leader at 10-under 134 is Peter Malnati, who posted a 65, lowest round of day two. He's two strokes better than three 8-under shooters, Sepp Straka, Talor Gooch and Scott Harrington.

Both Gators made the cut and both Seminoles fell by the wayside. Matt Every (70-72-142) is tied for 31st at 2 under and Brian Gay (69-74-143) is another stroke back at 1 under. Hank Lebioda missed the cut at two over (74-72-146) and Daniel Berger never got it going and wound up at plus 8 (77-75-152).
