Potter Adds Another 68, Tied for 22nd at Greenbrier
Saturday, July 8, 2017

A second straight 2-under-par 68 moved Ted Potter up three places into a tie for 22nd yesterday at the Greenbrier Classic in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. But - again - it could have been a lot better.

Ted jumped out of the box quickly as he has done so many times in the past, making birdies at 1, 2 and 7 to get it to 5 under. A bogey at 8 and a fourth birdie at 9 and he turned in 3-under 31 on the nine without a par 5 hole. He made another birdie at No.12 to go to 4 under for the day and 6 under overall, but the round unraveled when he bogeyed 13 and 16. After 36 holes, Ted had made nine birdies, but negated them with five bogeys.

Sebastian Munoz continued on top in the $7.1 million event but he wasn't able to come near his opening round of 61. He tacked on a 3-under 67 for 128, 12 under, and was able to retain a three-stroke edge. Davis Love III, looking to become the oldest PGA Tour winner ever at age 53, is still in the hunt at 8 under.

Camilo Villegas, who made the field from the alternate's list, was best of the Gators at 4-under 136 after a pair of 68s, while Brett Stegmaier (69-70-139) and Brian Gay (67-72-139) made the cut right on the line of 1 under. Matt Every improved to 71 after a Thursday 73 and missed the cut at 4 over.

OPPENHEIM CONTENDING AT LECOM - Xinjun Zhang (-11) is deadlocked for the lead with Adam Long at the halfway point of the Web.com's Lecom Health Challenge in upstate New York. Central Floridian Rob Oppenheim is tied for third at 10 under (68-66-134). Gator Dudley Hart, prepping for the Champions Tour - he turns 49 in August - shot 70-71-141 and made the cut right on the line at minus 3. Dan McCarthy, two-time winner of the Ocala Open at Candler Hills, is 4 under after a pair of 70s and tied for 35th.

KIRK LEADS, GAL SURGING - Katherine Kirk was in command of the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Oneida, Wisconsin, but Gator Sandra Gal was making a strong surge when play was halted by darkness. Kirk's 68-63-131 is 13 under par and leads Gal and Jaye Marie Green by three.

Gal shot 4-under 68 in the first round, and was sailing along toward the top with a bogey-free round and birdies at 1, 7, 9, 10, 12 and 13; she'll try to continue her assault on par this morning.
