Oosthuizen Finishes With 76 at TPC; Ties for 42nd
Tuesday, March 15, 2022

The weather was the biggest story over the weekend at TPC Sawgrass, as the Tournament Players Championship had to extend into Monday due to various combinations of cold, rain and darkness. The elements made it unfair, if that's the right word, with some players suffering with bad tee times, and others experiencing a little more luck by getting to play in the sunshine.

When the icicles had cleared Monday, Cam Smith scored a one-stroke victory over Anirban Lahari, finishing with a 69 for 275, 13 under par. In an ironic twist, the first five finishers each wound up one stroke behind the player above him. After Lahari's 12 under, Paul Casey was at 11 under, Kevin Kisner at 10 under, and Keegan Bradley at 9 under. Dustin Johnson, way out of it after 54 holes, shot the best round of the day, a 9-under 63, and moved all the way up to a tie for ninth at 7 under. Smith earned a juicy $3 million in the $20 million event and is now the money leader with $5,797,375.

Louis Oosthuizen posted an uncharacteristic 76 in the finale and dropped into a tie for 42nd. His rounds of 69-72-69-76-286 left him at 2 under, and he collected a check for $73,000, which moved him up to 128th on the money list with $400,768 in the bank. He'll be playing in this week's event, the $7.8 million Valspar at the Innisbrook Copperhead course in Palm Harbor. Sam Burns won it last year, banking $1,242,000. Brian Gay is the lone Gator entered, and Brooks Koepka and Hank Lebioda will represent the Seminoles.
