Kretz Racing’s Cabo Spirit saved ground early in Saturday’s $201,500, Gr. II Twilight Derby at Santa Anita, waited for room to launch his rally in the stretch and was best by half a length at the wire, with fellow OBS graduate Speaking Scout (October ’20) finishing second. It’s the second graded stakes win for the 3-year-old son of Pioneerof the Nile, trained by George Papaprodromou, now 15-4-3-3 with $438,560 in earnings. Consigned to the 2021 Spring Sale by Eddie Woods, Agent, he was purchased for $575,000 by Gayle Van Leer, Agent, after breezing a quarter in :20 4/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Gatsas Stables, R. A. Hill Stable and Steven Schoenfeld’s Freedom Trail is two for two and a stakes-winner after coming around horses in Aqueduct’s $120,000 Awad Stakes on Saturday, taking over inside the final sixteenth and scoring by three quarters of a length. The 2-year-old son of OBS graduate Collected, his sire’s first stakes-winner, was purchased for $150,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2022 OBS Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Trained by John Terranova, he has earned $118,250.

Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Peter Searles and Patty Searles’ City Man overcame early traffic trouble in Sunday’s $200,000 Mohawk Stakes at Aqueduct, found room inside to reach contention at the head of the stretch, took command a furlong out and drew away to win by 2 1/2 lengths. It’s the second straight stakes victory for the graded stakes-winning 5-year-old son of Mucho Macho Man, sold to Reeves Thoroughbreds for $185,000 by Off the Hook LLC, Agent, at the 2019 OBS Spring Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 1/5 at the Under Tack Show. Trained by Christophe Clement, he’s now 25-8-5-3 and earned $871,800.

Patricia’s Hope’s unbeaten Back to Ohio is five for five with four stakes wins after romping to a 7 1/4-length victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Best of Ohio John W. Galbreath Stakes at Mahoning Valley Race Course. Trained by Larry Rivelli, the 2-year-old daughter of Midshipman has earned $245,700. Consigned to the 2022 OBS Spring Sale by Top Line Sales LLC, Agent, she was sold for $385,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :9 4/5.
