OBS Grads Flood the Breeders' Cup

A pair of OBS graduates are entered in the $1-million Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1)

    R3 Racing LLC’s Sharp Aza Tack won Monmouth’s Tyro Stakes in July and comes in off a second in the Juvenile Sprint Stakes in September at Kentucky Downs. Trained by Doug O’Neill, the 2-year-old colt by OBS graduate Sharp Azteca is now 3-2-1-0 has earned $200,200 to date. He was purchased for $100,000 out of the RiceHorse Stable consignment at the 2022 OBS March Sale after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. Tyler Gaffalione will be aboard from post nine. 


    Bob Baffert sends out Michael E. Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman’s Speed Boat Beach, two for two and coming into the race off a victory in Santa Anita’s Speakeasy Stakes on the grass at Santa Anita on October 2nd. Switched to the lawn after setting a track record on the dirt in his debut at Del Mar, the 2-year-old Florida-bred colt by Bayern, bred by Richard Heysek at Caperlane Farm, has earned $108,000 to date. He’ll break from post 11 and be ridden by Flavien Prat. The two-time OBS graduate was sold by Stuart Morris, Agent, at the 2021 October Yearling Sale, then purchased for $200,000 out of the Really and Truly Thoroughbreds consignment at the 2022 March Sale after speeding an Under Tack eighth in :9 3/5. 

Three OBS graduates are entered in the $2-million Juvenile Fillies (G1)

    Doug O’Neill sends out Omar Aldabbagh, Todd Cady and Ty Leatherman’s Vegas Magic, winner of Del Mar’s Sorrento Stakes (G2) in August and fourth last out in the Del Mar Debutante (G1). She’ll be ridden from post one by Jose Ortiz. The 2-year-old daughter of Good Magic, purchased for $100,000 out of the Wavertree Stables consignment at the 2022 OBS March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5, comes in with 4-3-0-0 career record and $223,200 in earnings.  

    Gatsas Stables, R. A. Hill Stable and Hidden Brook Farm LLC’s You’re My Girl was second in the Frizette Stakes (G1) at Aqueduct on October 2nd after breaking her maiden at first asking at Saratoga in September. The 2-year-old daughter of Overanalyze, now 2-1-1-0 for trainer John Terranova, has earned $128,400 to date. She will break from post two and be ridden by John Velazquez.  After speeding an Under Tack quarter in :21 flat at the 2022 OBS June Sale, she was purchased for $130,000 out of the Coastal Equine LLC (Jesse Hoppel) consignment.  

    Peter Redekop B. C., Ltd.’s And Tell Me Nolies can stake a claim to an Eclipse Award with a victory, coming into the race off wins in Santa Anita’s Chandelier Stakes (G2) and the Del Mar Debutante (G1). She’ll start from post three and be ridden by Ramon Vazquez. The 2-year-old daughter of Arrogate, consigned by Off the Hook LLC, Agent, to the 2022 OBS Spring Sale, was sold for $230,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. Trained by Peter Miller, she has compiled a 4-3-0-0 and earned $352,800 to date. 

     Augustin Stable’s Delight is the sole OBS grad in the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf after racing her way in with a frontrunning victory in Jessamine Stakes (G2) on October 7th at Keeneland. The 2-year-old Florida-bred daughter of Mendelssohn is a two-time OBS graduate, sold by Stuart Morris, Agent, at the 2021 October Selected Yearling Sale and then purchased for $400,000 out of the Paul Sharp consignment at the 2022 March Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. Trained by Jonathan Thomas, she’s now 4-2-0-2 and earned $211,905. Luis Saez will ride from post nine. 

Two OBS graduates are entered in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1)

    Tami Bobo and Lugamo Racing Stable LLC’s Congruent won the Laurel Futurity in his last trip to the post. Trained by Antonio Sano, the 2-year-old colt by Tapit, who will start from post two under Jose Ortiz, is now 4-2-0-1 and has earned $119,240. He breezed an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 prior to being purchased for $350,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2022 OBS March Sale. 

    Reddam Racing LLC’s Wound Up broke his maiden at first asking at Del Mar in August and was fifth in Santa Anita’s Speakeasy Stakes in his last start. Consigned to the 2022 OBS Spring Sale by Woodford Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent, the 2-year-old son of Mendelssohn was sold for $280,000 after speeding a quarter in :20 3/5 at the Under Tack Show. Now 3-1-0-0 with $50,500 in earnings for trainer Mike McCarthy, he’ll break from post seven under Mario Gutierrez. 

The $1-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf has drawn six OBS graduates.

    Jeff Mullins sends out Red Baron’s Barn LLC and Rancho Temescal LLC’s Packs a Wahlop, coming in on the heels of victories in Santa Anita’s $203,000 Zuma Beach Stakes (G3) on October 9th and the Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes (G3) in September. The 2-year-old colt by Creative Cause is now 4-3-0-0 with $230,000 in earnings. He was consigned to the 2022 OBS Spring Sale by Envision Equine, Agent, where he was sold for $270,000 after breezing an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show. He’ll be ridden by Mike Smith and break from post two.  

    George A. Sharp’s Curly Larry and Mo will start from post three under Francisco Arrieta. It’s the stakes debut for the 2-year-old colt by Mo Town, who broke his maiden in frontrunning style over the Keeneland turf course in his last trip to the post on October 15th. Trained by Caio Caramori, he’s now 4-1-1-0 and earned $66,065. At the 2022 OBS Spring Sale, he worked an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 and was purchased for $75,000 out of the Brick City Thoroughbreds consignment. 

    Trainer Mike Maker sends out Paradise Farms Corp., David Staudacher and Jason Ash’s Really Good. After breaking his maiden at first asking at Saratoga in July, he comes in off a second in Keeneland’s Bourbon Stakes (G2) on October 9th. After working an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5 at the 2022 OBS Spring Sale, he was purchased for $125,000 out of the Randy Bradshaw consignment. The 2-year-old son of Hard Spun, now 3-1-0-2 with $138,188 in earnings, will break from post seven under Luis Saez. 

    Team Hanley, Richard Schermerhorn, and Paul Braverman’s I’m Very Busy, second in the Pilgrim Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct on October 2nd, will be ridden from post eight under Flavien Prat. Sporting a 2-1-1-0 record for trainer Chad Brown, he has earned $97,750 to date. Consigned by James Layden, Agent, to the 2022 OBS March Sale, the 2-year-old son of Cloud Computing was sold for $135,000 after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. 

    D.J. Stable LLC’s Webslinger will be ridden by Dylan Davis and break from post ten. Mark Casse trains the 2-year-old colt by Constitution, who comes in off a maiden breaking victory in Monmouth’s Nownownow Stakes in September. A two-time OBS graduate, he went through the ring at the 2022 Spring Sale before being purchased for $50,000 out of the Blue River Bloodstock consignment at the June Sale after breezing three eighths in :33 1/5.  

    Paradise Farms Corp., David Staudacher, Skychai Racing LLC and Angelo Carlesimo’s Gaslight Dancer comes into the race off a second-place finish in Aqueduct’s Futurity Stakes (G3) on October 9th. Trainer Mike Maker signed the ticket for the 2-year-old colt by City of Light, purchased for $260,000 out of the Julie Davies consignment at the 2022 OBS Spring Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5. Now 3-1-1-0 with $121,116 in earnings, he’ll break from post 14 under Juan Hernandez. 

 SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5TH

A trio of OBS grads are entered in the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1)


    Michael Dubb and Michael J. Caruso’s Hot Peppers, trained by Rudy Rodriguez, will break from post ten and be ridden by Junior Alvarado. The 3-year-old Florida-bred filly by Khozan comes in with a 9-5-2-0 record and has earned $392,950 to date. A winner of Belmont’s Victory Ride Stakes (G3) in July, she was second in Saratoga’s Test (G1) in August and was fourth in the Prioress (G2) at the Spa in her last time out in September. A two-time OBS graduate, she was sold at the 2020 October Selected Yearling Sale and then purchased for $16,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2021 June Sale after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5. 


    Trainer Brad Cox sends out Frank Fletcher Racing Operations, Inc. and Ten Strike Racing’s Lady Rocket, second in Aqueduct’s Gallant Bloom Stakes (G2) in her last start. The 5-year-old daughter of Tale of the Cat has won or placed in four graded stakes, the most recent victory in the Chicago Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs in June. She comes in with a 16-7-4-2 record and $757,088 in earnings. Cox has named Joel Rosario to ride and she’ll start from post 12. A two-time OBS graduate, she was sold by The Acorn at the 2018 October Selected Yearling Sale and then purchased for $420,000 out of the de Meric Sales consignment at the 2019 Spring Sale after turning in an Under Tack eighth in :10 flat. 

    LRE Racing LLC and JEH Racing LLC’s Casa Creed is the lone OBS entrant in the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1). The six-time stakes winning 6-year-old son of Jimmy Creed scored in back-to-back grade ones this summer, taking Belmont’s Jaipur (G1) in June and Saratoga’s Fourstardave Handicap (G1) in August. Purchased for $15,000 out of the Janie Roper consignment at the 2017 OBS Winter Mixed Sale and trained by Bill Mott, he comes in with a 28-7-4-4 career mark with $1,731,058 in earnings. Luis Saez rides from post 11.

Two OBS graduates will go to the post in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1)


    Altamira Racing Stable, Gary Barber, Tom Kagele and Madaket Stables LLC’s C Z Rocket has spent the last few years knocking heads with the best sprinters west of the Mississippi. Coming in off a second-place finish in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G2) on October 1st, the 8-year-old multiple graded stakes winning son of City Zip, trained by Peter Miller, has earned $1,612,641 and is now 34-12-5-5. At the 2016 OBS June Sale, he turned in an Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 before he was purchased out of the Stephens Thoroughbred consignment for a then sale record $800,000. He’ll break from post eight and be ridden by Flavien Prat.

    Lea Farms LLC’s Willy Boi, the first Breeders’ Cup starter for trainer Jorge Delgado, comes in off a third-place finish in Saratoga’s Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G1) after winning Gulfstream’s Smile Sprint Invitational Stakes (G3). The 4-year-old Florida-bred son of Uncaptured will be ridden by Chantal Sutherland and break from post ten. He was sold for $40,000 by breeder Ocala Stud as a two-year-old in training at the 2020 OBS October Sale after turning in an Under Tack quarter in :21 1/5.  Now 13-6-1-1, he has earned $350,485 to date. 

    Nice Guys Stables’ King Cause carries the OBS banner into the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) after scoring in Aqueduct’s Knickerbocker Stakes (G3) on October 9th in his last start. It was the first graded stakes win for the 7-year-old son of Creative Cause, trained by Mike Maker, now 33-8-4-7 with $601,228 in earnings to date. He turned in a Under Tack eighth in :10 1/5 at the 2017 OBS Spring Sale and was purchased out of the Parrish Farms consignment for $200,000 by Dennis O’Neill. Juan Hernandez will ride from post 12. 

    George Krikorian’s War Like Goddess is the lone OBS entrant in the $4-million Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1). Third in the Filly and Mare Turf (G1) in 2021, she’s back with a chance to wrap up an Eclipse Award after three wins and a second in graded stakes this year. A winner over the boys in Aqueduct’s Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes (G1) in her last start on October 8th, she comes in with a 12-9-1-1 career record and earnings of $1,612,184. Trained by Bill Mott, the 5-year-old daughter of English Channel will break from post two under Joel Rosario. Consigned to the 2019 OBS June Sale by Hemingway Racing and Training Stables, she was sold for $30,000 after breezing an Under Tack eighth in :10 2/5.
