Munoz Hot at Greenbrier, Potter Seven Back
Thursday, July 6, 2017

While Sebastian Munoz ripped the Old White Course apart with a 9-under-par 61, Ted Potter faltered with a pair of late bogeys and finished the first round of the Greenbrier Classic with a 2-under 68.

Ted began on the back nine and birdied the 11th and 12th holes, then added birdies on 17 and 2 to go 4 under, and was tied for ninth at the time. But bogeys at 3 (with a three-putt green) and 8 dropped him back to 2 under and a tie for 25th in the event where he won his only PGA title back in 2012. He tees off tomorrow at 7:20 a.m in a twosome with Shawn Stefani.

Davis Love III found the Fountain of Youth early in the day and was the leader at 7 under until Munoz finished his excellent round as evening fell. Love's son, Davis IV, shot 4-over-par 74.

Among the Gators, Brian Gay posted a 3-under 67, Camilo Villegas, who slipped in from the alternate's list, a 2-under 68, Brett Stegmaier a 1-under 69, and Matt Every a 3-over 73. The early projected cut line looked to be at 1 under.

PAR LOOKS EASY IN N. Y. - At the Web.com's Lecom Health Challenge in Findley Lakes, N. Y., Xinjun Zhang takes a one-stroke lead into round 2 after an opening 64, 8 under par. Adam Lang and Michael Arnaud are one back, and veteran Gator Dudley Hart is tied for 48th at 2 under 70, which is the early cut line. Two-time Ocala Open winner Dan McCarthy is also at 2 under. There are 29 players at 1 under and 101 in all who are under par.
