Mickelson Takes Two-Stroke Lead Into Desert Classic Finale
Sunday, January 20, 2019

Phil Mickelson continued his mastery at La Quinta yesterday, posting another bogey-free round of 6-under 66, and he takes a two-stroke lead into today's finale of the Desert Classic. Phil birdied three holes on each side after opening with pars on the first five holes. He has a tournament-leading 22 birdies over the 54 holes, along with one eagle and one double bogey. Ironically, he hasn't made a bogey for three days. He had three twos on his card Saturday.

Adam Hadwin remained in contention, adding a 65 for 196, 20 under and good for second place. Adam Long shot 63 and is in third alone at 19 under, followed by veteran Steve Marino, who is 18 under in fourth as he fights to keep his playing privileges.

Mickelson has hit just 24 of 42 fairways but he's 42 for 54 in the greens in regulation column and he's sixth in scrambling.

Seminoles: Daniel Berger (67-67-69-203) is 13 under and is tied for 20th; rookie Hank Lebioda missed the cut (minus 9) by one with 70-70-68-208. Gator: Brian Gay - 71-72-69-212, 4 under, missed cut.

Dominic Bozzelli, guest of the Casey family at Golden Hills during the FSGA event several years back, is tied for seventh at 16 under after shooting 64. Charlie Reiter, a freshman at USC, was 1 over after 36 holes, but shot a course-record 9-under 63 at the Stadium Course, missing the cut by a stroke.
