Monday, December 10, 2018

The end-of-the -year event that few care about - the QBE Shootout at Tiburon Golf Club - wound up in Naples yesterday and Patton Kizzire and Brian Harman won it at 30 under par. The duo shot 59-66-61-186, to edge out Graeme McDowell and Emiliano Grillo by one stroke. There were three teams tied for third at 28 under.

Gator Billy Horschel and partner Brandt Snedeker tied for eighth in the 12-team field at 22 under. Lexi Thompson and Tony Finau tied for seventh at 23 under.

WALKER WINS WEB.COM QUALIFIER

At the Web.com Tour qualifying event in Chandler, Arizona, Danny Walker was the medalist at 27 under par, and he earned a check for $50,000. He shot a final-round 63, 9 under, and is now fully exempt for the PGA Tour for 2019.

The second through 10th qualifiers (and ties) are guaranteed at least 12 starts, and 11 made it. Numbers 11-40 are guaranteed at least eight starts, in this case 12-49. It took 18-under 270 to make that final group.

Cody Bick was the big story of the day after his clubs were stolen out of the garage of the house he was staying in prior to the final round. Borrowing various clubs from the pro shop, the course superintendent at the Whirlwind Golf Club, and several others, Bick made the grade after posting a 9-under-par 63.
