Patrick Cantlay all but knocked himself out of the running in the American Express Championship at La Quinta yesterday, adding an even-par 72 to his 14-under 36-hole total and dropping him from the lead into a tie for 11th. He's seven strokes behind leaders Lee Hodges (62-72-64-198) and steady Paul Barjon (66-67-65), and has little chance of winning with so many names between himself and the top pair.
Tom Hoge is alone in third at 17 under and Seamus Power is two back at 16 under.
Gator Camilo Villegas is tied for 39th at 9 under after rounds of 69-68-70-207, and Seminole Hank Lebioda is in a tie for 45th with 68-69-71-208, 8 under. Due to the pro-am, the cut came after 54 holes at 7 under.
