HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Shooting Star Thoroughbreds LLC’s Chance It, who produced the fastest Beyer Speed Figure of any 2-year-old in the country this year in his most recent start, breezed a half-mile in :47.43 seconds Sunday morning at Gulfstream Park.

The son of Currency Swap’s tune-up for the Aug. 3 Dr. Fager, first leg of the FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes series, was the fastest of 49 recorded at the distance. The Saffie Joseph Jr.-trained colt had previously fired a 47-second bullet workout on July 15.

“He went very well,” Joseph said. “He came into our barn in great shape. Mary Lightner, who runs the syndicate that owns him, did a great job getting him ready. The first day, he was a little bad behaving, but since then, he’s done everything you’d want from a racehorse. He trains good. He looks good. He runs good.”

Chance It finished second in his June 1 debut, then bounced back to post a brilliant 9 ¼-length triumph at Gulfstream on June 29. The Florida-bred colt won a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight race in 1:03.95 while  being wrapped up in the stretch, earning a 92 Beyer.

“We always thought he was good. You dream of that, but you have to see it first,” Joseph said. “He showed us talent, and he’s delivered what he’s shown.”

Gunnevera Returns to Worktab at Gulfstream West - Recovered from a foot bruise that had prevented him from breezing since June 15, Margoth’s Gunnevera returned to the worktab at Gulfstream Park West Sunday morning. The 5-year-old son of Dialed In, who finished third in the $10 million Dubai World Cup March 30 in his most recent start, breezed a half-mile in 48 seconds, the fastest of six recorded at the distance.

“I’m very happy with my horse,” trainer Antonio Sano said. “Right now, he is 100 percent.” Gunnevera, is being pointed to the Gr. I Whitney at Saratoga on Aug. 3, then for a return to action in the Gr. I Woodward at the Spa on Aug. 31.
