BMW Down to 69 Players; Tiger's Back
Thursday, August 15, 2019

The FedEx playoffs are down to 69 players and two final events after Patrick Reed's one-stroke victory over Abraham Ancer in the $9,250,000 Northern Trust Championship last Sunday. Reed finished at 16 under par and walked off with the $1,665,000 first prize.

The second-event action begins today at the BMW Championship at famed Medinah Country Club in Illinois, and one of the major story lines concerns Tiger Woods and whether he can be a factor after his injury withdrawal from the Northern Trust following an opening-round 75. All players will begin on No.1, and Tiger goes at 11:54 with C. T. Pan and Gator Billy Horschel, who tied for 21st last week at 8-under.

Here are some of the other marquee match-ups:

9:20 - Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, Keith Mitchell. Mickelson dropped from 34th to 46th in the standings after finishing at 1-over 285.

9:37 - Ian Poulter, Jordan Spieth, Rory Sabbatini. Spieth was only four strokes behind Reed, killing his chances with a third-round 74.

10:10 - Tony Finau, Bryson DeChambeau, Kevin Kisner.

10:21 - Paul Casey, Adam Scott, Justin Thomas. Scott closed with a 65 and tied for fifth at 13 under.

10:48 - Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Rory McIlroy. Brooks wasn't sharp and shot 6 under, tying for 30th. The Player of the Year is always eligible to bounce back and win this week. McIlroy tied with Spieth at 12 under.

12:54 - Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, Justin Rose. Dustin opened with 63-67, but couldn't keep it going, adding a 74 and 73 and dropping back to a tie for 24th at 7 under.

1:05 - Matt Kuchar, Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay. Rahm was sharp last week, finishing just two strokes behind Reed.
