Big Guns are in Memphis; Potter's in California
Tuesday, July 28, 2020

Everybody who is anybody (almost) will tee it up in the $10.5 million WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis this week - excluding Tiger Woods, Ted Potter and Michael Thompson, winner of the 3M Open in Minnesota on Sunday.

Featured groups paired in round 1 at the TPC Southland include Jon Rahm, just installed as the world's No. 1, with Bryson DeChambeau and Rickie Fowler; Rory McIlroy, with Webb Simpson and Jordan Spieth; Patrick Reed, with Viktor Hovland and Brooks Koepka, and Justin Thomas, with Collin Morikawa and Hideki Matsuyama. Koepka is one of two FSU grads playing - the other is Daniel Berger. The lone Gator is Billy Horschel.

Potter will be looking to rebound from a couple of missed cuts at the $3.5 million Barracuda Championship in Truckee, California at the Tahoe Mountain Club. There is one Seminole, Hank Lebioda, and three former Gators, Matt Every, Brian Gay and old-timer Chris Couch.

Scoring will be by the Modified Stableford system on the Old Greenwood course, which features three under-400-yard par 4s that may prove to be driveable by the extra-long hitters.
