Bernie,
I enjoy looking at your website and totally agree with your stance on exchange wagering. The little business it would do only drains from the serious pools, anyway. On TVG, you know we have gotten a lot of calls and your column puts it in perspective -- TVG trying to hold the track hostage, basically. Well, I didn't even know they are owned by Betfair until I saw your column. Great stuff. For me personally, it also shows how bereft this area is of any serious pari-mutuel coverage. Just fluff stuff four weeks out of five from the Times and the Tribune's lame chalk selections. At least they run a picture of the Saturday stakes race, but is that something TBD should be grateful for?
Let me know the next time you're coming down and we'll hobnob some more. If there is anything I can do, let me know.
Regards,
Mike Henry

Hi, Bernie. Hope all is well with you. Just want to say I always enjoy reading your informative articles. Take care.

I do support Avioli and Gordon, Bernie, however, you made no mention of the shoddy journalism you performed when writing about Dayton Andrews "owner" Artz. You are blinded by the truth and slipshod at best. Heard you are a big Lonnie Powell fan and secretly pushed for him to lead your beloved FTBOA. True? If they only knew his relationship with top FHBPA brass. Seems like the FHBPA may be taking things over for the entire state. As it should be! Buckyinkentucky

Ocala is the "Ocala, located in North Central Florida, breeds an impressive 3,500 to 5,000 Thoroughbred race horses each year. Of course, that is only about 10 percent of the nation's total, but enough for Ocala to bill itself as the Horse Capital of the World.“ There are thousands of horses nationwide, but Ocala will make you smile! Glass 1-25-2011 -Calder Casino & Race Course has gone on the offensive in southeast Florida’s battle over racing dates by telling state regulators it intends to start racing year-round. Calder doesn’t deserve to race year round let alone the prime dates from Thanksgiving Day till April. These dates should go to Gulfstream Park. Calder behaves like they own these dates and did nothing this year but cut purses during the tropical meet. Why should the horsemen, fans and the state be held hostage to Calder and CDI?. They don’t deserve these dates and the last three years have done nothing but sit on their hands and cost everyone money. Gulfstream Park just ended its first week of racing. Take a look at their number and compare it to Calder’s. Case closed! It’s about time Gulfstream Park became aggressive. For twenty years Calder has been the only track in south Florida running in December. The last five years all the numbers have declined. So, just because they “want to run in December” doesn’t mean they have earned to right to run in December. The State of Florida, the horsemen and its fans deserve better. 1-25-2011 - Bernie, You seem negative to
everything, especially the Florida
situation. If you are an owner who races in
Florida you are an HBPA member. Do you
attend meetings? Do you pass along any
positive input or any of your ideas? Surely
a man who writes of such things as you do
must have insider's
knowledge of how
things work?? Or are you just the
"shill" of another?? Get a grip Bernie!! Sam
Gordon is a business man first and foremost,
he cares about racing deeply and he is your
elected leader. Either bring something to
the table of walk away from it. Or in other
words; Lead, follow or get out of the way.
Now I don't know that Kent Stirling fella,
but, he may just be just another of those
"pretty boy's" But, if Sam Gordon has him
there it must be that he is pretty good at
what he does, I can tell you he is well
respected in the industry so if it's good
enough for the masses, it is good enough for
me. Congratulations to Sam Gordon, Kent
Stirling and the entire FHBPA for a job well
done! Happy Holidays to all.
Bucky in Kentucky 8-25-2010 - Bernie, I couldn't agree more with you as Forego was and still in my favotite horse of all time. Ed Cooperstein
6-30-2010 - Dear Bernie:
I think you might get a kick out of the
website, put together by Dennis Mills, who
is now running for a spot on the Breeders'
Cup board. Gives you an idea of what he
thinks of the racing public. Check it out

5-15-2010 Wow! Just knowing that I know Todd Pletcher's dad J.J. makes me feel good. an indirect contact with greatness! . . . Bill D. 3-26-2010 - Yes, Billy Fabry was a character, and a good friend, we enjoyed many golf outings together. I really enjoyed his laugh and loved how he would always hunt for lost balls! He was the man with the plan and I learned from him how to organize a golf outing. We still play around town like touring pro golfers, only we are just hacks but we love it!. . . Bill Dasher 3-26-2010 - Thanks, Bern, for the story on our old friend Bill Fabry. You described Billy just the way I remembered him. He was a good friend to me and I will miss him. . . . Mike Eckman 2-2-2010 - Bernie, I Have been
following you for years in the St. Pete. Times and still haven't
beaten you. You really know your ponies
1-15-2010 - Hey Bernie,
Great site , I wish you much success. Your exactly right about TVG.
Prioritizing races and long tape - delays drives me nuts. The PA
Derby was the killer . I had broke and offered a horse that ran in
that race andwas very interested in the outcome. I received a call
with the finish order before they even showed the race. Their
feature of the day I might add. How crazy. 1-6-2010 - Hi Bernie,
Catherine just told me about your web site. Nice!
